Privacy Policy
Last updated: 27 October 2026
Tenner is a free app for iOS and Android that lets friends make
predictions about anything: someone asks a question, everyone picks an
answer, and the person who asked records the result. This policy
explains what personal data Tenner collects, why we use it, who we
share it with, how long we keep it and what your rights are. It covers
the Tenner app (bet.tenner.tenner on Google Play) and the
pages on tenner.bet.
1. Who we are
The developer of Tenner is responsible (the "controller") for the personal data described in this policy. In this policy, "we", "us" and "our" mean the developer of Tenner. Our full company details (legal name, address and registration number) will be added here before Tenner's public launch.
You can reach us by email at privacy@tenner.bet, in English or Dutch.
2. What we collect
2.1 Your account
- Your email address. You sign in with a link that we email to you, or with a password if you set one.
- Your password, if you choose one. Google Firebase Authentication stores it as a secure hash. We never see it.
- A user ID that Firebase Authentication creates for your sign-in account, and the dates on which you created your account and last signed in.
2.2 Your profile
- Your first name, last name and username.
- The country you choose when you register.
- A profile picture, if you add one. You can take a photo or choose one from your photo library. The app only opens the camera or your library when you ask it to, and only uploads the picture you choose. We store the image as you upload it, including any information inside the file, such as the place where a photo was taken. If you do not want to share that, remove the location from the photo before you upload it.
2.3 What you do in Tenner
- Tenners you create: the question, the options, the deadline, the status and the result.
- Tenners you join and the option you picked.
- Invite links and friend links you create or open, and who you are friends with.
- The notifications Tenner shows you in the app.
2.4 Your device
- A push token, if you allow notifications. It lets us send notifications to your device. We store it with the type of device (Android or iOS) and the time it was registered.
- Deadline reminders are scheduled on your device itself and do not go through our servers.
- Data on your device: the app keeps your sign-in session, a few settings and cached pictures on your device. They are removed when you uninstall the app.
2.5 Technical data
When the app or this website talks to our servers, we process your IP address and technical details of the request, such as the address requested, the time, the response and any errors. We use this to keep Tenner secure, to limit abuse (for example by limiting how many requests one IP address can make) and to find and fix problems. Our technical logs and traces can contain your IP address, your user ID and the addresses you open, including the code in an invite link. They are deleted automatically after 14 days.
2.6 What we do not collect
Tenner shows no ads and contains no advertising or analytics trackers. We do not collect your location (apart from any location inside a photo you upload, see 2.2), your contacts or payment details, and we do not sell your personal data.
3. Why we use your data, and on what legal basis
- To provide Tenner (performance of our agreement with you, Article 6(1)(b) GDPR): to create and run your account, show you your Tenners, friends and notifications, and send you sign-in emails and push notifications.
- To keep Tenner secure and working (our legitimate interests, Article 6(1)(f) GDPR): technical logs, limits against abuse and finding and fixing errors. Our interest is a safe and reliable service. We keep this data limited and delete it after 14 days.
- To comply with the law (legal obligation, Article 6(1)(c) GDPR), for example to answer lawful requests from authorities or to deal with reports of illegal content.
We only send push notifications if you allow them in your device settings, and you can turn them off there at any time. We do not use your data for advertising or profiling, and we do not make automated decisions about you that have legal or similarly significant effects.
4. Who can see your information in Tenner
Tenner has no public profiles, no feed and no search. Other people only see your information in these situations:
- Your friends see your name, username and profile picture.
- People in a Tenner you created see your name, username and profile picture as its creator. When someone joins your Tenner, you are told their name.
- People in a Tenner you joined see your profile picture, but not your name or which option you picked. Its creator is told your name when you join. Everyone in a Tenner can see how many people picked each option, once they have picked themselves or once betting has closed.
- Anyone who opens an invite link you shared, even without a Tenner account, sees the question, the options, the status, your name and profile picture as the person who shared it, and the profile pictures of the people who joined (not their names).
- Anyone who opens your friend link sees your name and profile picture until the link expires.
Only share invite links and friend links with people you want to invite.
5. Service providers
We use the following companies to run Tenner. They process personal data for us, only for the purposes described here.
| Provider | What for | Data |
|---|---|---|
| Google Firebase Authentication | Signing in, and sending sign-in and password-reset emails | Email address, password hash, Firebase user ID, sign-in dates |
| Google Firebase Cloud Messaging | Delivering push notifications | Push token, notification text |
| Apple Push Notification service | Delivering push notifications to iPhones | Push token, notification text |
| Microsoft Azure | Hosting our servers, in Sweden (EU) | Everything the app and website send to our servers |
| MongoDB Atlas | Our database, including profile pictures | Account, profile, Tenners, friends, notifications, push tokens |
| Grafana Cloud | Technical logs, traces and metrics, stored in the EU | The technical data in section 2.5 |
| Google Fonts | Fonts in the app and on this website | Your IP address, because your device downloads the fonts from Google |
You download the app from Google Play or Apple's App Store; their own privacy policies apply to that. When you share a link through another app, such as a messaging app, that app's privacy policy applies to what you share there. We may also disclose personal data when the law requires us to, for example to the police or a court.
6. Transfers outside the EEA
Some of our providers, in particular Google and Apple, may process personal data outside the European Economic Area, for example in the United States. Where that happens, we rely on the safeguards these providers offer, such as the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.
7. How long we keep your data
- Your account, profile and activity: as long as you have an account. Section 8 explains what happens when you delete it.
- Push tokens: deleted when you sign out or delete your account, and automatically after 60 days if the app does not renew the token.
- Technical logs and traces: 14 days.
- Invite links and friend links: friend links stop working after the period shown in the app, and invite links stop accepting new participants at the deadline. We currently keep the records of expired links without a fixed end date.
8. Deleting your account
You can delete your account in the app (Profile, then Delete account) or ask us by email. Deleting closes your account straight away and removes your name and picture from what other people see. Shortly afterwards we delete your sign-in account at Firebase Authentication and your profile picture file. We do not yet delete everything: some data is kept, currently without a fixed end date. The full list of what is removed and what is kept is on Delete your Tenner account. We are working on deleting or anonymising the data we keep, and will update this policy and that page when we do.
9. Your rights
Under the GDPR (and the UK GDPR) you have the right to:
- get a copy of the personal data we hold about you;
- have incorrect data corrected;
- have your data deleted;
- have the use of your data restricted;
- object to our use of your data based on our legitimate interests;
- receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
You can change or remove your profile picture in the app. For anything else, email privacy@tenner.bet from the email address you use to sign in to Tenner. We reply within one month, and may ask you to confirm that the account is yours.
You can also complain to a data protection authority: in the Netherlands the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens, or the authority in the country where you live. We would appreciate the chance to sort it out with you first.
10. Children
Tenner is not intended for children. If you believe a child has created a Tenner account, contact us and we will delete it.
11. Security
The app, this website and our servers communicate over encrypted connections (HTTPS). Access to our production systems and data is limited to the people who run Tenner, and passwords are handled by Firebase Authentication. No system is completely secure. If a data breach is likely to put you at risk, we will tell you as the law requires.
12. Changes to this policy
We update this policy when Tenner or the law changes. The date at the top shows when it was last updated. If a change significantly affects you, we will tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect.
13. Contact
